About the Role

A public charter school network in Brooklyn is seeking a dedicated and engaging Middle School ELA Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The school is known for its strong academic culture, commitment to educational equity, and focus on developing critical thinkers and confident communicators.

This role is ideal for educators who are passionate about literacy, enjoy working with middle school students, and are committed to creating a rigorous and inclusive classroom environment where students can develop strong reading, writing, and analytical skills.

This position is open to both U.S.-based and international educators through the ConnectUS J-1 Teacher Visa Program.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned ELA instruction for middle school students

  • Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing, grammar, and vocabulary

  • Design engaging lessons that promote critical thinking and a love of reading and writing

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners

  • Create a structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment

  • Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments

  • Provide targeted feedback to support student growth in writing and literacy skills

  • Implement strong classroom management strategies aligned with school culture

  • Collaborate with grade-level and content teams on curriculum and instructional planning

  • Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives


Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or a related field

  • Degree must be equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree

Experience

  • Minimum of two years of full-time teaching experience preferred

  • Experience teaching ELA at the middle school level strongly preferred

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of ELA standards and best practices

  • Ability to teach both literature and writing effectively

  • Strong classroom management and communication skills

  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners

  • Experience with writing instruction and feedback strategies

  • Familiarity with literacy interventions or data-driven instruction preferred

  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching is a plus

Additional eligibility requirements include:

  • A degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree in English, education, or a related subject

  • Valid teaching qualifications from your home country

  • At least two years of full-time teaching experience

  • English language proficiency

  • Strong professional references and professional standing
