Job Opening: Associate Teacher (K–4)
Location: Hoboken or Jersey City, NJ
Type: Full-Time | 10-Month Position | Private School

A progressive private elementary school with campuses in Hoboken and Jersey City, NJ is seeking a Kindergarten–Grade 4 Associate Teacher for the 2025–2026 school year, with an immediate start date. This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring educators to gain hands-on experience while working closely with a mentor teacher and academic team. This role may be particularly suitable for a candidate seeking to come to the U.S. on a graduate or intern visa (such as a J-1 visa).

About the Associate Teacher Program

This structured program is designed to train, support, and inspire the next generation of progressive educators. Associate teachers gain experience across at least two different grade levels over the course of the program, working under the guidance of experienced faculty and school leaders.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the head teacher with daily classroom routines, including arrival, dismissal, transitions, and classroom management

  • Participate in morning meetings, recess/lunch supervision, and lesson facilitation

  • Collaborate with the head teacher to understand each student holistically, with input from school counselors and learning specialists

  • Assist with lesson planning and delivery in core subjects (language arts, math, social studies, community building)

  • Take on full class responsibilities in the absence of the head teacher, with support

  • Support student assessments and parent/guardian conference preparation

  • Contribute to written progress reports and classroom documentation

  • Develop and implement classroom management strategies

Ideal Candidate

  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (Master’s preferred)

  • Is enthusiastic, collaborative, and open to professional feedback

  • Has strong communication skills and a genuine passion for working with children

  • Is a self-starter with a positive, flexible attitude

  • Is culturally competent and committed to inclusion and equity

Additional Requirements

  • Arrival by 8:15 AM

  • Attendance at selected weekly faculty meetings, back-to-school night, parent-teacher conferences, and relevant school events

  • Participation in grade-level field trips (including occasional overnight trips)

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $38,000–$39,500
