About the Role:
This innovative charter school in Brooklyn is seeking a passionate Middle School Social Studies Teacher to join their team for the 2025 school year. Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that bring history, geography, civics, and current events to life.
Foster a classroom culture that encourages debate, discussion, and inquiry-based learning.
Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, ensuring all students develop strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
Assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments, adjusting instruction as needed.
Integrate technology and multimedia resources to enhance student engagement and understanding of historical and contemporary issues.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and classroom activities.
Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects, school-wide initiatives, and extracurricular activities.
Utilize positive classroom management strategies to create a respectful, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, Geography, History, Education, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience (middle school preferred).
Skills:
Strong understanding of middle school learners and best practices in social studies education.
Excellent communication and facilitation skills, encouraging student-led discussions and debates.
Ability to incorporate primary sources, project-based learning, and real-world connections into lessons.
Proficiency in using technology for research, collaboration, and interactive learning.
Commitment to fostering a culturally responsive and inclusive classroom.
Familiarity with inquiry-based learning and student-centered teaching methodologies.
Experience with Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) or Restorative Practices is a plus but not required.

Additional qualifications include:
A degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree in education or social studies-related fields.
Teaching certification in your home country.
At least two years of full-time teaching experience.
