Job Opening: Lower School Learning Specialist

A private elementary school in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a Lower School Learning Specialist for the 2025–2026 academic year. This is a full-time role beginning in August 2025 and ending in June 2026, with standard work hours and paid time off aligned with the school’s academic calendar.
About the Role
The Learning Specialist will support students from kindergarten through 4th grade, focusing primarily on literacy development. This includes implementing targeted instructional strategies, assessing individual student needs, collaborating with classroom teachers, and developing individualized learning plans. This role is ideal for an educator who is experienced, reflective, and committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities

Provide pull-out and/or push-in instructional support in reading, writing, and literacy

Design individualized lessons based on reading and phonics assessments

Collaborate with classroom teachers to support differentiation and student success

Monitor and assess student progress and maintain academic profiles

Offer short-term reteaching sessions and targeted interventions

Communicate regularly with families of students receiving support

Participate in Child Study Team meetings and maintain district-related paperwork

Coach teachers on literacy instruction and strategies for struggling learners
Candidate Profile

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

At least five years of teaching experience, including two years as a learning specialist

Deep understanding of literacy instruction and child development

Skilled in administering assessments and interpreting data

Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

Culturally competent and committed to inclusive teaching practices

Comfortable using technology, including Google Suite, Smart Panels, and Chromebooks
